Another lurcher owner 2008/03/24 15:44
Hello all!

I came across this site whilst looking for more info on Galgos as i am considering rehoming a female galga and wanted to know more info about them...

I live in England and am already a proud owner of a female lurcher or technically a longdog (2 sighthounds crossed). She is a saluki x greyhound and is an absolute darling... i wouldnt have any other dog than a sighthound now!

I know all there is to know about lurchers and grey's but galgos have evaded me until now! I look forward to knowing more about them...

Hi Beccy,

I have 2 galgo's(males)and I would reccomend galgo's anyday. They are such wonderful dogs, and no problem at all in the house or with other dogs. It wasn't known if my galgo's were good with cats,( I have 8) and they had been "tested" in Spain and as far as they could tell , they were not fierce towards them. Once they arrived in the house here, there was no problem at all, they all just cuddled up.
We decided to go for two traumatised galgo's, as these dogs are also in need of a good home. They have both come round so well, and I don't think the people at the shelter would even recognise them now. They are so happy and playfull.

The galgo's and galga's in Spain are used to living in groups and they are usually very very sociable with other dogs. I have 4 dogs here (3 males and one female) and they have never ever had a fight at all. Galgo's are very placid and gentle dogs, very quiet in the house, they hardly bark and do not pull on the leash. I'm sure that when you do adopt one, you will never want anything else........you sure wont be dissapointed

I hope you find your galga friend...good luck

greetings Hil

Hi as you might expect we love our galgos. I have two. Both different personalities but both wonderful beyond words. ONe is very laid back male, and a small female who was very shy with other people but not with us..she is getting better in "the world" now but in our home she is a crazy little spit fire! We love her, her name is Aluna and we call her "Looney" as her nickname!
They are just like any other sighthounds, and if you love lurchers and grey mixes you will love a galgo..very gentle and quiet in the home..Aluna is fiesty on leash if she see another dog, but a gentle tug on leash and she looks at me with those sad galgo eyes likke she know she did wrong and then keeps walking happily..anyway I hope you are able to open your heart and home to a very needy galgo espanol!

I can't say enough positive things about our Galgo (well, Galga, really, I suppose).

She's such an adorable, sweet creature, and she's been so quick to learn!

If you like having sighthounds around, you really can't go wrong with a Galgo.
