Last September Daisy found us. She is a Greyhound/Great Dane and we got the Lurcher bug! My web page pretty much speaks for itself.
www.aklurcher.comSince I started this I have learned that, here in Alaska, we have a large number of sight hound mixes in the sled dog community. Mushers are trying to breed speed into the sled dogs. Some the puppies are first generation, 1/2 sight hound, and just a transition breeding. In many cases these dogs cannot live outside in our winters. Today it’s -20 F. Finding homes for large indoor dogs is difficult. I personally don’t care about the hair and we are working around the crowding on the furniture. This summer we will set up kennels with a heated indoor kennel area.
I want to start connecting Lurchers to potential new homes in warmer climates. Would you link me to your page?
I have one new boy to add this week. A Saluki X Pointer/sled dog. He looks like a heck of a hunter. He is now housed at a sled dog kennel in a heated barn, and one of 10 dogs. He is not interested in pulling and gets cold easily. I will go visit him today or tomorrow to get photos and check him out.
Any help rehoming these dogs would be appreciated.
