The Federación Andaluza de Galgos is the body which organises and promotes hare-coursing with greyhounds in Andalusia. This consists in setting a pack of greyhounds after hares which, when they are caught, are torn limb from limb by the dogs.
Using greyhounds for hunting involves - as well as this direct ill-treatment of animals for entertainment purposes - horrific consequences for the greyhounds themselves when they are no longer able to hunt (http://invite. filmloop. com/x?R-yyjBkHhV xS0Wji5M5ETZPx4B R/UpRR) or race, since the Federación also promotes "greyhound racing" on dog-tracks.
For these reasons, many Spanish animal associations and organisations are conducting campaigns against hare-coursing with greyhounds; nevertheless, since the year 2000, the Diputación Provincial de Sevilla (Seville County Council) has been collaborating with the Federación Andaluza de Galgos to promote and encourage hare-coursing with greyhounds. This collaboration takes the form of subsidies granted "to ensure and facilitate the greater participation of Municipalities and packs in competitions" . During 2006, the Diputación de Sevilla granted the Federación Andaluza de Galgos a subsidy of 5,500 euros. Since 2000 it has granted the Federación more than 30,000 euros for the same purpose.
