I've been thinking for a while about offering easy hikes with your dogs up here in the red rocks of Sedona, Arizona, or farther up into the high country near Flagstaff. Nothing extreme, but hike in, enjoy the views, take photos, eat a light meal, then hike out. Just a few hours for the entire time frame.
Sedona's a bit pricey, but I'm looking into trying something in off-season with a dog friendly resort here in town. The scenery around here is absolutely breathtaking, and my dogs love the hikes we take. There are all levels of trails available. I'd do something easy with a lot of photo opps. It's too hot to do it here in the summer, so maybe Fall or Spring... not sure. Fall is probably best so we don't overlap with Spring Break kids (eek!).
Since the surrounding countryside is all forest service property (with trails in place), I'm looking into their rules and regulations first. I have a vet tech on board and my vet, just in case. I have people here who want to help, so 'staffing' is covered.
My reason for posting - I'm wanting to use this as a fundraiser for adoption groups and would charge a small fee for the hike. Might cover food too if I find a place where we could bring it in by car and meet the group for the meal. Since most gatherings have speakers and vendors, this wouldn't fall under that category... and it would not necessarily be breed specific. As long as the dogs hiking are controlled and polite (like their owners)

Do you think people would want to participate? I'm thinking of perhaps twice a year to start... maybe more often if it seems to generate interest among tourists (we get a lot with dogs). Coming long distances for just one or two days of hiking is a lot to ask. Though possibly there could be enough interest just in our vicinity... Don't know... just thinkig out loud.
Anyway... just wanted to throw this out there and see what thoughts you all have. It's in its infancy and Telma, I know you and I have talked about it for a couple of years now... hmmm...
I'll let you know how my 'test hikes' do
