G.R.I.N. has been made aware of two very special sighthound mixes that need good homes. These wonderful dogs make great companions and are more “all terrain” than some of the more delicate Galgos and Greyhounds. If you are looking for a hearty and faithful companion to join you for long walks and lots of devotion, please contact us, and we can certainly help you meet the companion you have been waiting for.

Callie is a female Lurcher mix, and she’s 6 years old and spayed. She was returned to the animal shelter from which she was originally adopted in Jan. 08 after five years in a home, and when she arrived, she was in a lamentable state of malnutrition and obviously had been neglected. The shelter she is in is a kill shelter in Arkansas , but because we have been in communication with the volunteers they have agreed to foster her in the hopes we can find her a home. She is brindle and slightly long haired – one of the shelter’s workers contacted GRIN thinking she might be a Galgo due to her longer coat.

"INOCENTE", another abused galgo, like so many of them who suffer in Spain. And when we save them we have to be extremely careful in our search for a trustworthy organisation or family to take them so that there will be no possibility whatsoever that they should ever go back to the same life that they suffered while with the madmen who were their previous owners.

Our dear young and beautiful galgo "Inocente" suffered through being hanged, and when he arrived at Kimba he also had an old fracture in one of his legs.  At our shelter he recovered from the lesion on his neck, and with a lot of patients on our part he finally began to accept our affection, although with a bit of misgiving.

I first met Lola while traveling to Camp Scooby as a volunteer last summer.  I took an instant liking to her based on her unique look and size (like a miniature German Shepherd!)  It was heartbreaking to leave Spain not knowing if I would see her again so we were so thrilled when I contacted G.R.I.N. after returning to America and found out they would be able to bring her to us. Thanks to the help of everyone at Camp Scooby, G.R.I.N., and Stacey and Chris Plaskett who drove little Lola and 5 other dogs from Colorado to Ohio, she made it!

Marta is doing great!  She has settled in well to home life and is loving all the attention she's been getting.  She has started running and loves being a running companion.  She knows her name very well and likes to stay close to us.  She has been meeting lots of other dogs on walks and has become quite the socialite.  She is very good at controlling play and staying on her toes!  She has settled in to our home wonderfully and has also graduated from her crate so has full reign of the house!  She is such a lady and loves a good cuddle with us.  She has been nothing but a joy to us and a wonderful addition to our home.  Thank you for all the work in helping her come to our home.

UPDATE!! Sarita, now named Pearl, has found her forever home! Sarita is a beautiful Galga who needs a very special family who understands that she needs special love and attention due to the life she had in Spain.  Sarita is very easy to fall in love with.  She has huge brown eyes, cute Galga ears and a curly tail as well as having a half brindle and half white face!

Abby at GRIN told me that this was an odd way to adopt ... and it was.  Fortunately, it has been just as rewarding as it was strange!

My background is in greyhound rescue & that is the way i became aware of the plight of the spanish greyhound or galgo.  I have tried for a few years to get in contact with a group that does this kind of work & was pleasantly surprised to find GRIN.

As i looked at all of the dogs who needed help, I became very interested in the ibizans that were listed on the GRIN website.  In no time at all, Abby had located a small family in need of help.  The puppies were only 5 weeks old, but she thought they were what i was looking for.  She could not have been more in tune with what i was thinking!  They were not actually the Ibizans that I had seen, but they were a group of podencos that desperately needed to get out of a bad situation.
