Abigail Christman, CVT, VTS(ECC)

Abby Christman - G.R.I.N. Board MemberAbby Christman is a veterinary nurse board certified in emergency and critical care. She works at the Colorado State University Veterinary Teaching Hospital in the Critical Care Unit.  She has been involved with greyhound rescue for 10 years, first becoming involved when she was a veterinary technician student working at CSU in the kennels where they kept the greyhounds used for terminal surgery.  She rescued a number of those pups and helped with the movement to abolish the practice. Her first greyhound, and the true love of her life, Freddy, was one of those rescued CSU dogs.

Since then, she has done quite a bit of greyhound and non-greyhound rescue, many of the animals being cats and dogs that crossed her path at the 2 hospitals at which she's worked (pets whose owners were going to euthanize due to financial issues).

She learned about Scooby and the plight of the Spanish galgo a few years ago and decided she had to do something to help.  She collected medical supplies and wrote letters for a while, and finally last October was able to go to Scooby with the help of Operation Scooby.  The trip was life-changing, and it has been full steam ahead ever since. She is a member of the Board of Directors for Operation Scooby and G.R.I.N..

Abby shares her home with 8 dogs and 3 cats -  3 Greyhounds, 1 Galgo, 1 Samoyed, 1 Chow, 1 Chow mix, and a German Shepherd, all of whom are rescues (as are the 3 kitties).  When not hanging out with her kids on her ranch in Northern Colorado or working on galgo stuff, she's usually concentrating on her second great passion, veterinary medicine.

Telma Shaw

Telma Shaw - G.R.I.N. Board MemberIn 1991 I began rescuing dogs when I lived in Cabo San Lucas.  I found an  emaciated hound left to die in the desert and another lab mix puppy tied by a wire around the neck and I knew I had to do something.  I adopted them and began to help the local vet with dog rescue.  In 1994 I moved from Cabo to Park City Utah and met a lady who changed my life.  She was a Greyhound enthusiast and owned a kennel.  She taught me how to groom dogs and run a kennel..she also introduced me to my first Greyhound, a four month old AKC puppy that was the last in the litter to be spoken for so she sold him to me for $1.00 knowing I would love that boy with all my heart.  Odie  was the catalyst for my love of the breed and my future in greyhound rescue.  In 1995 I returned to California with two dogs in tow and met the wonderful people at Operation Greyhound.  I began my volunteering with that group and to this day I am still involved as a placement rep and volunteer.

I have also worked with Greyhound Connection as a foster mom having fostered over 20 greys in the last couple of years and also as a foster home coordinator, new dog coordinator and home rep.  My husband Mike and I also love GURing hounds when we can.  We are both committed to hound rescue and it is wonderful to share this passion together.

About four years back I was surfing the net and came across the Scooby site.  I was horrified.  I felt helpless.  I contacted Eva and began following all the stories at Scooby and began supporting them.  I decided I needed to do something more and I decided to learn how to sew to make dog coats for the poor Galgos so that they could at least feel some warmth and comfort until they found their forever homes.  It felt wonderful to help them.  So far, with the help of friends, we have sent about 400 coats to Scooby and other shelters in Spain.  I was very blessed to have been introduced to Abby through an email and she graciously offered to take coats with her to Spain.  My connection to GRIN had begun.  I am a proud dog mom to three wonderful Greyhounds and this year we have added two amazing Galgos to our pack.  I am so thankful that I have had the opportunity to help not only the plight of the Galgos but also the plight of the Greys and other needy sighthounds as well..my passion in life is helping those who have no voice.  Proverbs 12:10 says "The righteous man regards the life of his beast...." and this is where I stand.

In everyday life I have worked for the last 8 years as a Marketing Coordinator in Assisted Living communities, helping the elderly.
