Operation Scooby
Operation Scooby is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit charity based in the United States. Founded by Carol Machery, DVM, Bev Hollis, DVM and Suzanne Stack, DVM in 2002 to provide medical assistance to the Spanish galgo refuge named Scooby in Medina del Campo.
Their goal is to provide at least one medical team each year to travel to Spain and provide surgical services to galgos at the close of the hunting season. Teams consist of veterinarians and technicians willing to donate their time for 7-10 days. Their hope is to provide financial assistance, especially to the technicians, as needed and as is available. In 2006, they invited G.R.I.N. member Abby Christman, CVT, VTS(ECC) to join their board of directors after sponsoring her on two missions.
Operation Scooby sponsored one group in 2003, two groups in 2004, one in 2005 and two in 2006. Currently, Operation Scooby is sponsoring a group of veterinary students under the guidance of Guillermo Couto, DVM who will be travelling to Spain in the Summer of 2007. This fall, Operation Scooby is sponsoring another group of veterinarians and technicians (including G.R.I.N. members) as they travel to Spain to help the galgos of Scooby. Scooby Protectora De Animales
Scooby Protectora De Animales is one of Spain's few galgo sanctuaries and is a leading association in both rescue and protections of animals in Spain. Founded in 1997 by Fermin Perez, Scooby is home to as many as 500 animals at any given time - and not just galgos. Scooby welcomes animals of all shapes and sizes - dogs of all breeds, cats, donkeys, lambs, goats, even a racoon and some geese have been givena second chance at life.
