A Message from Fermin of Scooby. Clarence is rescued!

Clarence is rescued!G.R.I.N. received these from Fermin today...

Dear friends,

This is a galgo that I have rescued today, he was abandoned in Medina. I must say that only because of this is it worth to keep working on animal welfare and I am especially proud of being able to do this work.

He is absolutely blind, the poor Clarence (this is his new name), and he was laying in the rain, freezing cold. As soon as he arrived at my house (I am now fostering him) we dewormed and cleaned him, and now he feels more safe. He has been already eating, drinking and making pee and pooh. It is only for these kind of things that, if Scooby did not exist, we should try to invent it. Enjoy the pictures.

Update: Pedro Munoz Cuidad Animal - Flooded Shelter

The galgos at Pedro Munoz CuidadGRIN has sent an EAF fund (Emergency Assistance Fund) as well as our monthly Shelter Aid grant  for the Pedro Munoz Shelter in Cuidad Real, that was flooded this month.  They have sent an estimate of the cost of putting in drainage so that this catastrophe will not happen again, and we are happy to be part of the solution.  Without your kind donations we would not be able to help those that need it, when they need it.  Thank you everyone for helping us help the shelters.  Below an email from one of the volunteers, Loli,  who works tirelessly to help these poor animals.

SAN ANTON: pick up the pieces and start all over again!

SAN ANTON: Picking up the piecesOn the morning of Dec. 24th the San Anton Shelter was a victim of a tornado that caused damage to this shelter, knocking out electric and water supply for the dogs.  The initial shock of the devastation is over and the reality of the rebuilding has taken over.  The work has begun and San Anton Shelter is picking up the pieces and starting all over again!  There is still a lot of work to do.  These photos show not only the extensiveness of the damage, but also the hard work underway to rebuild the shelter.

Flooding in Pedro Munoz Cuidad Animal Shelter

Flooding in Pedro Munoz Cuidad Animal ShelterFlooding in Pedro Munoz Cuidad Animal Shelter in Cuidad Real Spain, about 200 kms south of Madrid.

These picture were taken Christmas week.  Heavy torrential rains pounded the country and the dog refuges are now suffering the consequences.  G.R.I.N. will be sending an EAF grant (Emergency Assistance Fund) to Pedro Munoz so that they can begin the work of adding drainage to the compound so that this will not happen again.  The volunteers worked without rest for days on end, first with buckets to remove water and then with a pump that was donated to them.  Right now the area has been freed of flooding but they are afraid it could start again.

There is much work to be done and your donations to the shelter aid fund will go to help the dogs at Pedro Munoz Cuidad Animal.  Thanks to volunteers Loli and Lydia for their tireless efforts to help these unfortunate dogs, with the back breaking work even fighting off fevers they continued.  The dogs are still at risk with colds and possibility of infections from the water.

If you would like to contribute you can PayPal your donations to GRIN and specify for Pedro Munoz flooded shelter aid.  They are so appreciative of your donations, and thank you to those who have already donated to their cause! Updates will follow.

Galgos in Jaen Rescued!

Galgos in Jaen Rescued! It starts the same way each time, a plea from a rescue group in Spain for dogs on death row.
Charlotte del Rio, GRIN rep in Malaga Spain, sent out this plea for the rescue group, ABYDA Associacion Bienestar y Defensa Animal a group in Jaen Spain.

I know everyone is completely saturated at the moment, but not only galgos other dogs are being put to sleep everywhere.  But these 4, if there was just a temporary space, or adoption it would save their lives!!  PLEASE FWD if you cannot help, you may just know someone who can.

The pictures tell the story, they do not have long to live.  We cant shake the images.  The plea goes out for other rescue friends to take a look, and possibly help.  This time the plea could be acted upon.  GRIN will help finance the rescue of two of the galgos through Silvia Bordetas in Valencia Spain.  The dogs will be saved, moved out of the killing station and into foster care.  Also, Vera Thorenaar Reddering living in Malaga who works with Greyhound Rescue in Holland will be fostering the most timid looking tiger galga in the picture, the one in the corner.  She is up to the challenge and is waiting anxiously for Monday Jan 4th to receive her into her home.  Once Quia (her new name) has adjusted, and it may take months, a home will be found for her through her group in Holland, www.greyhoundsrescue.nl.  These poor galgos are terrorized by their experiences and need time and patience, of which Vera has had experience to handle.  Thank You Vera and thank you to all involved in this life saving rescue.

We will keep our readers posted on their journey to a new life!  Thanks to everyone for their help.

Thank you from Vera

I would like to add that THANKS to GRIN from so far away, this message got to the right people and from there to more or less the whole of Spain and Holland aswell.  Great job!! Will let you know how Quia goes on....

Kind Regards,
Vera
