This fantastic couple is owned by three beautiful Greyhounds and one amazing galga who GRIN brought to the U.S. in 2009 from Scooby Medina. We want to thank the Gigl Gang for their love and support that helps us continue in our efforts to help those galgos still in dire need in Spain. Thanks to their efforts Ruso will be coming to the U.S. to recover from a broken hip and find his forever home. You are very special friends of the galgos! Thank you so much!
The GRIN Board
Dear Telma,
Thank-you back at you, my dear.
How I got involved with Galgos:
We already had three wonderful greyhounds, our male Alloway, and females, Angel and Ariel. I was checking my emails on April 14, 2009 and noticed that a galgo who was being fostered was not working out. I emailed that I would be happy to help in any way that my husband, Paul, and I could. Soon after I was informed that I could pick up "Julia" anytime that week to foster. Well, my girlfriend and I drove half way to Ault, CO to meet with the current foster mom. When I saw "Julia", a darling black small galgo, I fell completely in love with her and made plans right from then to adopt.
She and our others such great joys in our life.
Sincerely,
Paul and Mayme Gigl and the Greyhound and Galgo Gang

Oct. 5, 2010 G.R.I.N. volunteers back from Spain. More information to follow:
G.R.I.N. board member Telma Shaw and volunteer Wally Lacey returned from an 11 day rescue mission to Southern Spain and Valencia. The Spanish newspaper "Gran Sevilla" published a short article on the purpose of the trip. See translation below:
THE ASSOCIATION G.R.I.N., TODAY VISITS SEVERAL MUNICIPAL (SHELTERS) THE UNITED STATES SHOWS INTEREST FOR THE RESCUE OF MISTREATED GALGOS
The situation of mistreatment and abandonment that, in many cases, affects the galgos in this area, not only does it have repercussions in Spain or Europe. What is seen in Spain also clashes in the United States from where today arrive two members of G.R.I.N. They will begin in Utrera, where they will visit the association for the
defense of the rights of the life of the animal (Ddevida) to learn more about their work, labor and their needs and to give them support. In the two days that they will visit the area, they will also visit other shelters in the metropolitan area of Dos Hermanas, Los Palacios and Villafranca and Sevilla.

Juanito was one of three lucky galgos who made it to the USA on Oct. 5, 2010 with Telma Shaw and Wally Lacey. His story began months back as we got the picture of a sad faced skinny galgo tied to a tree is sweltering heat at the point of exhaustion near Sevilla. We began correspondence with Spain about the sad faced little boy and found out he had been left to die at the side of the road. A compassionate rescue person saw him and untied him and brought him water, he could barely get up. Once he did he followed her and anyone who approached looking as if to say, please help me. The pictures were gut wretching and GRIN began to see what we could do for him being a trip to Spain was planned. As it turned out he ended up in a not suitable foster home and through many efforts was removed for his well being and sent to Valencia to be looked after by rescuer Silvia Bordetas Gil until we were able to come for him. Juanito is now in his forever home in Florida thanks to the efforts of many wonderful people including Bonnie and Art Maguire and Dee Hansen who originally saw our post and sent it out to her list and his new mom Trista Lee Morris responded. We are so happy for Juanito that he now has the life he deserves and will flourish under the care of Trista.
Thank you everyone for making his dream come true!

The Fiesta de los Galgos in Escondido California held on Sept. 19, 2010 was a success. The annual Greyhound Connection Picnic and Annual Reunion www.greyhoundconnection.org raised funds for the ex-racers here in California that need homes as well as the G.R.I.N. booth that participated in the event. We are happy to announce that with the funds raised at this event another galgo named Romeo has found his ticket to freedom as of today! Please see the plea from Tina Solera of Murcia Spain who is now collaborating with Silvia Bordetas Gil to help a handful of galgos that were set to be destroyed or returned to the hunters.
Ruso is one of the three rescued by Tina and Silvia and today is having his surgery to repair his broken hip thanks to all our donors and supporters.
Now he and Romeo and little Agustin the Podenco with the broken leg have a brighter future. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
