Emily and Quincy: Life Is Precious

Christopher Plaskett November 12, 2014

Emily Driscoll (22) and her retired racer Quincy (6) were hit and killed by a car on Sunday night near Chicago. Like many of my greyhound and galgo friends, I'd only ever met her online, but she genuinely felt like a friend, like someone I'd known better or longer than I actually had — I think that's the way it is with many of us in the community.

Her vivaciousness and her love for her dog were apparent in her posts on Instagram, and she and Quincy always brought a smile to my face.

I'm sharing this here because it's important to remember that things like this can happen at a moment's notice to young, happy, healthy people and young, happy, healthy dogs... how every moment we have is one with which we should try to do good things... that even the people we barely know can make a huge difference in our lives.

There's an article with more information on Emily and Quincy on the Naperville Patch. You can send condolences to her family through a guestbook here.

Galgo Rescue International Network

Galgo Rescue International Network

Dedicated to the welfare of the Spanish Galgo and Sighthounds worldwide.

Galgo Rescue International Network (GRIN) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit animal welfare organization run entirely by volunteers that was founded to establish a relationship between the animal shelters in Spain and animal lovers in the United States and around the world.  Our love of Greyhounds and concern for their plight drew us to their cousins — the galgos.

Working closely with Spanish shelters, GRIN raises awareness of the Spanish Greyhound's plight through international educational campaigns and fundraising.  We also aid shelters and assist with adoptions for rehomed sighthounds in the U.S. with the primary goals being to provide practical help and supplies to the Spanish shelters and to inspire change in the treatment of the Galgo Espnaõl and the Podenco through public informational and educational campaigns.
