Too Cute!

Christopher Plaskett March 15, 2012

WE THOUGHT THIS PICTURE WOULD GET YOUR ATTENTION!

Yes they are adorable and now that you are reading this we want to update you on some good news. We want to thank all our faithful supporters that have enabled G.R.I.N. to make a difference to several associations since January 2012, thus making a big difference in the lives of many Galgos and Podencos!

In the last three months G.R.I.N. has distributed  help to 7 shelters in the form of our Shelter Aid Donations as well as 2 EAF (Emergency Assistance Funds) grants to extra needy cases. We are excited to share the news that many galgos from different kill stations have been helped directly to be released into these associations and are now safe and some have already been homed!  We also have shipped 13 boxes of coats, collars and leashes to many shelters thanks to your support.  The shelters were very greatful for the coats as it has been an exceptionally cold winter.

The following email came from  Char del Rio  of 112Carlotagalgos and we thought we would like to share with you what your support means to our Spanish friends. Her sentiments are repeated by many of our shelter friends..

Next Generation Rescuer!

Dear GRIN supporters, without your help, support, and hard work I know so well that so many a galgo, & Podenco just wouldnt feel help, a warm bed, a vets care, a coat on, even a collar for the first time, since many just go round tied up from bailer twine. There are so many times when we all hold our breaths in desperation, hold our head in our hands in prayer, as I am sure, you all do also, for as much as we have the stress of the rescues and survival here, you all work so desperately and tirelessy hard for our sakes, for the dogs sakes. So I know that you also feel these days of wonder.

Your kind donation will go towards rent fee, sterilising Polyana and her preparation, and food for the group we have in care.

So from me, my only words to find of thanks are that I feel a warmth from GRIN, in an understanding of what we go through. Unconditional support for the Spanish galgo and Podencos, no matter what,- GRIN's presence is there. Here, alive in Spain and pushing forward in the plight of the galgo and helping those, me, who need help.

Having been into the schools, and pushing forward in this passion, the desire to educate and show the young a better way, I feel its here change will take place.

I see the hard work GRIN does, I know it musnt be easy supporting all those you do, but I can absolutely assure you, this saves lives, changes lives, allows us to beable to take in, move on, operate on, care for and heal as many as we can. Its my hope we create the educational centre and we will see change all of us together.

My deepest most heart felt thanks, what a surprise today to open my email and see your donation, a lift, a gasp in amazement this morning..of all days as well  its my 17th wedding anniversary! GRIN gives hope, and answers prayers.

Thankyou so very very much, In so much galgo affection, and thanks.

Operation Rehala- 24 Hours Left

Christopher Plaskett March 8, 2012

UPDATE: ALL THE PODENCOS AND GALGOS AND OTHER MIXES AT THIS CAMP HAVE BEEN RESCUED THANKS TO MANY ASSOCIATIONS THROUGHOUT SPAIN. GO TO  www.pro-setter.org  FOR UPDATE ON THE RESCUE.

THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR HARD WORK!!

G.R.I.N has been following the disturbing story of yet another horrific illegal encampment holding 120 Podencos and Galgos in Bullas in the Murcia area in the south of Spain. Rescue groups have shot into action once again. Friday March 9th is the only day left for these groups to rescue the dogs that are left. This has been on the news in Spain, in the newspapers and reported thoughout Spain and Europe, but help is still needed for those on the ground in this rescue. Pro-Setter a hunting dog rescue in the area has head up this rescue along with Galgos del Sol, La Fortaleza, Henrietta Foundation, and many other rescue groups in Spain are helping such as Galgos 112, Galgo Connection Spain and others. Donations are needed for medical help of these dogs who are in very rough conditions. Please read the links below to see the conditions these poor dogs have had to endure. No food, water, nothing but misery. You can help! Donate through G.R.I.N.  for a tax deductible contribution and we will send funds on to them, you can also go directly to their site as well. Below is from Galgos del Sol

It was a pleasure to help Pro-Setter in this mass rescue. You can see Pro-setter and Galgos del Sol in this TV interview on the Murcia Region news which also features Andreas Animal Rescue & The Henrietta Foundation and La Fortaleza.

G.R.I.N. Presents at Solvang Greyhound Gathering

Christopher Plaskett February 29, 2012

G.R.I.N. PRESENTS AT SOLVANG GREYHOUND GATHERING

Feb 25, 2012

G.R.I.N. wants to thank Teri Rogo who again gave us  the opportunity to do a presentation at the 8th annual  West Coast Greyhound Gathering in Solvang California.  We are happy to report we had a great group of hound lovers turn out! Telma Shaw, board member of G.R.I.N. did a power point presentation of a review of G.R.I.N.’s work in 2011 which encompassed a history of the situation in Spain and the plight of the Galgos and Podencos as well as the work done here in the U.S. to help the shelters G.R.I.N. supports in Spain.  Many happy endings were shown of the dogs G.R.I.N. has helped through our fundraising. The second segment was a presentation done by volunteer Mora Gorzani who put together a photo essay with music of the shelter, Fundacion Benjamin Mehnert  in Sevilla, that  she visited in December 2011.  Mora had heard about the need for volunteers at these shelters at last year’s presentation and had stayed in contact with Telma about going to help out. After months of thinking about it, Mora said she just had to go, and she did just that and took suitcases filled with coats, collars and leashes to the shelter.  Since then she has also helped the shelter by sending blankets for the dog beds which were very needed. We thank Mora for her zeal and initiative to take on a trip to Spain to help the Galgos!

Also G.R.I.N. wants to thank Laura White who attended again this year with her friend Claudia Hayner. Since last year’s Solvang these two gals have been very busy making hundreds of coats for the galgos at the shelters and have also coordinated booths with G.R.I.N.  information at dog events in Central California.  This year they both helped man our G.R.I.N  information table. We also thank Marci Jones who although in a wheelchair recovering from a broken ankle, made the effort to also vend and raise funds for GRIN at the event!

Also thank you to the attendees of the gathering who brought their contributions of coats, collars, leashes and dog toys for the Galgos. These donations  will be greatly appreciated by our friends in Spain and  also we thank  our donors who without your help we could not continue our work. Thank You all for your support!

Hope to see you next year in Solvang and we have word that a few Podencos will be making next year’s West Coast Greyhound Gathering! See you then…

Telma Shaw for G.R.I.N.

RESCUE OF JEREZ GALGOS IN NEED

Christopher Plaskett February 7, 2012

Feb. 7, 2011 Valencia Spain

Galgo Connection Spain rescues Jerez Galgos from kill station. These are just a few of the galgos that have been rescued from Jerez this week. They have all come in a lamentable state. We hope that in time they will recover and find the happiness they so deserve. G.R.I.N. has donated a E.A.F. grant to GCS to help in this overwhelming effort. The help they need will continue as it will take many months for them to recover from the starvation, dehydration, wounds, abuse and the operations needed, in order to be ready for adoption and the hope of a new life. We thank our donors for your ongoing support so that we can reach out and change the outcome for these deserving hounds. Thanks to the end of the hunt season all our friends in Spain are battling each day to try to save the ones they can. With your help we can continue. Thank You.

Rescue Effort Underway

Christopher Plaskett January 22, 2012
UPDATE ON RESCUE FEB. 5, 2012 - FUNDS RAISED TO HELP!
EMERGENCY FB ONLINE AUCTION TO HELP RESCUE THESE GALGOS
70 galgos need rescuing  70 galgos need rescuing
When Galgos del Sol put on the photos of the distressing case of over 70 galgos all in worrying conditions some were sad, some were angry and some just got plain busy. Yep, we are talking about Wayne de Greyhound, Chai Huggablehound and Sherry Van Dyke all from the USA & supporters of GRIN. Whilst we were running around like lunatics these three amazing people (sorry one amazing person and two amazing greyhounds as the mums did nuffin) literally knocked up out of no-where an emergency online auction on Facebook. Obviously when we are picking up large numbers of dogs in one go we are concerned about the financial implications as each dog costs a minimum of 250 euros plus the kennelling, food, transport and treatment for the ill ones who need further care. Knowing that this was going on in the background definitely eased some worries & gave us the confidence to just go for it. So as you know I had to zip to the USA with two dogs and over there was lucky enough to meet Sherry herself. A beautiful women with a bulging heart just bursting for the galgos. She came running into the room after speaking to Chai Huggablehoundhound and said "oh my god, we might hit $4000" and with that she slumped into her chair in disbelief. On a personal note it has lifted my spirits my confidence and given me a lift to know that so many people support Galgos del Sol and believe in us that we can together as a team can make a difference, yes you, YES YOU and us, a team. Thanks to those who donated items and to those who placed bids. Total raised ‎$ 4,269.14 USD . Jeepers creepers this is simply amazing. From us and the galgos we have rescued and the galgos that are waiting.... GRASSY ARSE AMIGOS. BESOS MUY GRANDES. You are friggin awesome!

A RESCUE EFFORT IS UNDERWAY.  Jan. 22, 2012
These are pictures from a hunter's breeding camp in the south of Spain. This owner has been denounced and some of the dogs are
being released to rescue associations. Not all will be let go as the hunters still want to use them for competition!  There are 70 galgos in this
dire situation but all is being done to save the ones they can save. We will direct any funds we receive to the associations that need the
help as we get more and more information. Tina of Galgos del Sol www.perrosdelsol.es is there right now helping coordinate with other associations as well. The rescued dogs will be needing on going care. Donations appreciated. Tax deductible donations through our website
will go to this effort. Thank you.

Kennel Projects 2012 - G.R.I.N. Contributes to Building Funds

Christopher Plaskett December 28, 2011

Our friends from Galgo Connection Spain in Valencia suffered a major loss of housing for their rescued dogs. Due to the economic situation, one of their reliable foster families has been forced to sell their house, leaving 11 dogs without a place to stay. Silvia and one of her volunteers have scrambled to start an emergency building project at the volunteer’s home to keep the dogs in a better facilities and in better living conditions than a cold boarding facility. Once built, the dogs will have a safe, comfortable haven next to the home with someone to oversee their needs 24/7. Fencing and block pens are being erected now, and more building materials will be needed. G.R.I.N. has been able to help them start the project with a $1200.00 donation. Your contribution towards this project is essential for the future of GCS and the help they can offer their abandoned dogs. We ask that you consider this special project to make their dreams come true for 2012. Since donations are currently being matched, this will double your donation, stretching the dollars twice as far!

G.R.I.N. is also working with the oldest shelter in Cadiz Spain called Kimba to help them build a shelter. The modular building that was donated to them years ago is rotting and the floor is falling out, and they desperately need a replacement. The unit is used by the volunteers to change their clothes when they come to work, for potential adopters to have a place to fill out paperwork, and a wide variety other uses necessary to operations at the shelter. The cost of a modular building is approximately $1,200.00.

We will allocate our funds to both of these projects to help these shelters with their needs for 2012.

Please remember that G.R.I.N. is  a 501(c)(3), and any donation you make is tax deductible!

Donations can be made via the PayPal or Network for Good button on this page or via check to

G.R.I.N. 17784 North County Rd. 15 Wellington, Co  80549

Thank you in advance for any donation you make!

Galgo Rescue International Network

Galgo Rescue International Network

Dedicated to the welfare of the Spanish Galgo and Sighthounds worldwide.

Galgo Rescue International Network (GRIN) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit animal welfare organization run entirely by volunteers that was founded to establish a relationship between the animal shelters in Spain and animal lovers in the United States and around the world.  Our love of Greyhounds and concern for their plight drew us to their cousins — the galgos.

Working closely with Spanish shelters, GRIN raises awareness of the Spanish Greyhound's plight through international educational campaigns and fundraising.  We also aid shelters and assist with adoptions for rehomed sighthounds in the U.S. with the primary goals being to provide practical help and supplies to the Spanish shelters and to inspire change in the treatment of the Galgo Espnaõl and the Podenco through public informational and educational campaigns.
