G.R.I.N. has been able to mail five boxes of coats to a very needy shelter in Sevilla Spain called Adoptio Animal www.adopcionanimal.com who is caring for over 250 galgos and other dogs as well. Their plea for warm coats for their shivering skinnies has been heard and over 100 coats have been sent. You can see from the pictures that they are enjoying them. Thank you coat makers and GRIN donors, without you this work cant be done.
Beryl Brennan of Galgo News gave us the good news today. The little Podenca, now named Estrella, that was with the three galgos in the killing station in Jaen, has found her way to Beryl's home for fostering in France. There have been several people involved in her rescue including Cristina de Luna and Beatrice of LEurope des Leviers and Eva Andrews of Canada. We are so happy for Estrella that now she will live the life she deserves. Estrella is looking for her forever home, please go to
G.R.I.N. received these from Fermin today...
San Anton Shelter in in Villa Martin Spain is continuing to rebuild after the devastating tornado the hit the shelter on December 24th, 2009. The below photos show much of the rebuilding that is already taking place thanks you the generous donations from around the world. There is still a lot to do to rebuild the shelter but spirits are high once again. Donations are still be taken to assist in the rebuilding effort. Thank you.
GRIN has sent an EAF fund (Emergency Assistance Fund) as well as our monthly Shelter Aid grant for the Pedro Munoz Shelter in Cuidad Real, that was flooded this month. They have sent an estimate of the cost of putting in drainage so that this catastrophe will not happen again, and we are happy to be part of the solution. Without your kind donations we would not be able to help those that need it, when they need it. Thank you everyone for helping us help the shelters. Below an email from one of the volunteers, Loli, who works tirelessly to help these poor animals.
Our friend in Malaga, Vera Thorrenaar, has sent GRIN these pictures of Quia, one of the galgos who were rescued from the Jaen killing station this week. Quia has come a long way in one week thanks to the efforts of many people. She is certainly getting used to the life she deserves. Thanks Vera for caring for her until she finds her forever home in Holland.
On the morning of Dec. 24th the San Anton Shelter was a victim of a tornado that caused damage to this shelter, knocking out electric and water supply for the dogs. The initial shock of the devastation is over and the reality of the rebuilding has taken over. The work has begun and San Anton Shelter is picking up the pieces and starting all over again! There is still a lot of work to do. These photos show not only the extensiveness of the damage, but also the hard work underway to rebuild the shelter.
